TWO-LEVEL WORK SPACE FOR DESIGNERS, ARCHITECTS AND DECORATORS
Metric area: 350 m²
The idea of creating a club space for professional designers, architects and decorators entered the mind of Mila Rezanova, a Moscow designer, on the Christmas Eve of 2011. While Mila was looking for a suitable office, the pages of her notebook were gradually accumulating business ideas of all kinds. Finally, a couple of months ago the territory of Artplay design centre was complemented with Covi Club. Engaged in the field of interior design for many years, Mila had a clear view of numerous challenges her colleagues have to face in the city of Moscow. And the biggest one − total lack of the necessary professional and creative infrastructure. Thus, Covi Club was destined to settle this very issue and called to consolidate the status of designers in Russia, lighten their lives and provide all the necessary facilities for creating their projects.
This office is not a common co-working space: the existing club system permits to enter into a contract only with those who submit a copy of a relevant education certificate. Besides the rent payment, the member’s due includes the fee for using conference rooms, libraries, catalogues, a special large-format printer, paper cutter, bookbinder and other tools. Now the club may easily admit up to 30 persons, but by next September work zones will be enlarged by another 350 m² thanks to the upper floor, which would allow for bonus 60 workplaces. The existing office space will be entirely allotted for a full-fledged library.
Before getting down to this project Mila had interviewed dozens of designers about their wants and needs. High ceilings enabled her to make the space multi-level and more extensional. The first floor was designed for a few work places, meetings with clients, a library and catalogues.
Besides a few isolated and open meeting rooms, the club features a special room for business presentations with all the necessary equipment. It frequently hosts lectures, master-classes and other events. The 2nd floor is allotted for the club’s staff office and one more work space.
