Giovanni Agliottone and de.SMAG is one of the winners of the Formabilio contest “Essential – Ridotto all’osso”, launched in march 2013. The company is a startup that looks to ethical business and thanks to a short manufacturing chain (designer, manufacturer, customer) aims to valorise designers and small Italian craft firms.
The idea of CINQUE springs from the desire to answer at best the requests of the contest: “Minimalist, essential, clean, strict, angular, simple, basic, straight. Submit your impeccably sober furniture designs. Dig into the deep, remove any embellishment, curls, punctuations, gaps, sketches.

Focusing on an indispensable furniture such as sofa, the team wanted to ease as much as possible the different elements that compose it up and the manufacturing processes. Hence the choice of working with wood paneling and find an alternative to hardware. Indeed this sofa requires no screwsor nails for mounting, but only uses well designed joints.
This gave the result of a sofa made of 5 elements, that can be assembled by two people in just 35”. Upholstered items are in polyurethane foam for superior comfort and are matched to the lacquering edges of the structure of the product. They want to enhance rigor and purity of the lines to almost mimic a graphic design or a geometric pattern.
